From the establishment of Ming Chuan University, it has set “Strive for Excellence” as its mission, through enhancing theoretical education and practical training to cultivate professional talents who have the sense of responsibility, high moral standards, team spirit and global vision to serve the country and international society. From its founding in 1957, Ming Chuan has now been an experienced higher education institution for more than 60 years and cultivated more than 150,000 alumni. The recognition MCU alumni receive from all sectors of the society not only builds up the reputation of the university, but is also proof of MCU’s educational philosophy. MCU occupies approximately 600 hectares over Taipei, Jihe, Taoyuan, Kinmen and Michigan locations. Currently, MCU has 12 Schools, 37 departments, 34 masters’ programs and 2 doctoral degree programs. Currently, over 20,000 students are enrolled at Ming Chuan, with the top number, domestically, of international students and students from China. Schools of Management, Law, Communication and the Institute of General Education are located on Taipei campus, while Schools of Tourism, Information Technology, Design, Education and Applied Languages, Social Sciences, Health Technology, Financial Technology and International College are located on Taoyuan campus.
The Radio and TV Department in School of Communication and Leisure and Recreation Management Department in School of Tourism both offer classes at Kinmen location to students from China, overseas Chinese students, foreign students and local students.

Established in 1999, the mission of Radio and TV Department is to cultivate outstanding talents in the field of radio and TV, with the educational goals of: 1. Strive for teaching excellence, cultivate talents in the field of radio and TV who are equipped with information technology application ability and creative and research ability; 2. Cultivate professional talents for radio and TV project planning and production; 3. Cultivate professional talents with global vision.
Features
Since its establishment, the Department has adhered to the education focus of “Integrated Communication” in the School of Communication by recruiting professional faculty in radio, TV and relevant fields to provide high quality instruction and at the same time enhance the resource integration within the School and continue to establish a complete and comprehensive system for the department.
Regarding visual images, our courses focus on MV, micro film, documentary, drama, while extended courses include script writing, storyboard, and practical filming, editing and post-production. For programs, we introduce courses in online streaming using the lartist system and the Eight claw dragon (BaChuaRong) system and set these as the competitive teaching focus of the department. For sound, aside from traditional radio show production and broadcasts, we put equal focus on sounds, sound effects, and Fukien dialect broadcasting. A feature worth mentioning is that the pop music course taught by faculty from the industry has become one of our featured courses and has cultivated many talents in related fields each year.
The most distinctive feature of Radio and TV Department is that internship system that is adopted in the practice radio station and TV station. During the four years of study, students can learn to use the facility to record, film, edit, plan, host and simulate for producing programs, as well as how to maintain and repair the equipment from the basic level to advanced level. Moreover, we cooperate with School of Communication to promote the “Digital Multi-media Experiment Platform” to implement six goals including diversification, multimedia, multi-channel, digitalization, professionalism and integration for advancing the areas of integrating and reformatting.
The Department emphasizes students’ mobility. Each year, many students participate in exchange programs with educational institutes overseas or 895 and 211 universities in China. Meanwhile, students from Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, China, Hong Kong and Macau are studying alongside of domestic students in the department. Over time, students’ vision and cross-cultural communication abilities are enhanced.

- Further Study: The university provides a “4+1” program which allows students to take master’s courses in their 3rd and 4th year of university. After students are admitted to the Master's Programs in New Media and Communication, they can complete their thesis or work report in one year and pass the oral examination to earn a master’s degree.

Digital Multi-media Experimental Platform
The Digital Multi-media Experimental Platform was established to break the old operational mode of primarily focusing on media and adopting information technology type as the new definition. The training implemented emphasizes the integration of different types of information technology, allows students to effectively use digital technology and at the same time cultivate their ability to work as a team and elevate their employment competitiveness.
Media News
Media News began on November 1, 1982 and set its motto as “the news among all news, the medium among all mediums,” and serve to “monitor” the media. Deep investigation, comparisons, interviews and analysis of relevant media-related incidents in important news allow readers to gain a deeper understanding about current media developments and direction. Positive reviews and recognitions are received from media, industry, government and academia.
MC TV
Founded in November 1985, MC TV was the first cable television station operated by a higher education institution in Taiwan and was also one of the earliest campus TV stations transformed to Internet TV. MC TV strives to provide the most advanced learning environment for students in the School of Communication. Professionals from the industry are invited to convey professional experiences for students to become familiar with the complete procedures for TV production to cultivate future talents for production. In 2005, School of Communication upgraded the original studio to a virtual studio system. The upgraded virtual studio breaks the boundaries of space and allows students to further use their creativity.
MC Broadcasting Station
Kinmen Location campus radio “Voice of MC Kinmen” FM88.3 officially started broadcasting on March 18, 2017. Listeners can tune in to the radio station by connecting online via cellphone or computer at http://radio.km.mcu.edu.tw Aside from being a platform for teaching and internship of radio-related courses at Kinmen Location, “Voice of MC Kinmen” also plays a public welfare function for English teaching and government propaganda in the community. We introduce quality English radio programs so children from disadvantaged family can access learning resources and thus achieve the goal for promoting public welfare. Another main focus is the programs produced by our students by using their creativity and abilities; these programs covers themes such as movies, music, life, people and household matters which display students’ learning outcomes.
Industry-academia Collaboration Center
The Center focuses on the interactive relationship with the media industry. Through various collaborations, students may have the chance to interact with the industry and gain deeper understanding of its updates and trends. In the promotion of industry-academia collaboration, the Center organized the 2004-2006 AY “Master Teacher Workplace Experiential Project,” selected outstanding students to be interns in industry CEOs’ offices. During the Beijing Olympics, the office cooperated with ELTA Technology Co., Ltd and selected students to assist with live broadcasting affairs in Beijing. This earned high affirmation by the industry.
Integrated Marketing Communications Center
Integrated Marketing Communications Center (IMCC) was established to assist School of Communication in cultivating talents of PR activity and management and promote the production and implementation standards of related School projects. Through the interaction in industrial circles, students can further their practical abilities and acquire relevant experiences.
Information and Communication Research Center
Established in 2002, the goal of the Center is to assist all units under the School in the establishment, maintenance and management of hardware and Internet connections. From the establishment of the Center, is has been assisting the School to carry out a series of digitalization projects. In July 2003, practical media courses were formally introduced to cooperate with Digital Multi-media Experimental Platform and assist in the teaching and internship in all practice media and Centers.
